matt chaikin was the original drummer for jane's addiction. perry really wanted matt for his new band, but he was actually doing double duty playing with his original band kommunity fk. matt had to make a choice and he chose kommunity fk. he knew perry from perry's psi com days and filled in on drums while the band searched for a more permanent player. matt's last band was blue period. matt can be heard on the 1/10/86 black radio bootleg if you want to seek that out and see what jane's addiction sounded like before the amazing perkins joined.
